Test 2 : India vs West Indies Match Preview & Lineups
Clinical India Begin Home Season with Dominant Win Over West Indies
India kicked off their home season in emphatic fashion, brushing aside the West Indies with a commanding all-round display to take a 1-0 lead in the series. From the first session onward, the hosts looked in complete control, ticking nearly every box in what was a near-perfect Test match performance.
Rahul, Jadeja, and Jurel Shine with the Bat
KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja carried their red-hot form from the England tour, both scoring crucial runs that underlined India’s growing batting depth. The highlight, however, was Dhruv Jurel’s composed maiden Test century — a mature knock that came in Rishabh Pant’s absence and showcased India’s enviable wicketkeeping depth.
Jadeja, promoted to No. 6, continued to impress with the bat. “I have been working hard during the break, both on fitness and skills,” Jadeja said after being named Player of the Match. “Batting at six gives me time to build my innings. I can take my time and pace it properly. Red soil pitches are always fun — good for batting, and as a spinner, you get turn and bounce.”
Siraj Leads a Ruthless Bowling Effort
Mohammed Siraj spearheaded the bowling attack with seven wickets across the match, blending aggression with precision. “Feeling very happy — we did well with both bat and ball,” said Siraj. “The wicket slowed down in the second innings, so it was all about patience and consistency. The team batting effort made our job easier.”
He was well supported by India’s spin trio, who relished the red-soil surface and maintained relentless pressure on the West Indies’ fragile lineup.
Gill’s Captaincy Maturity on Display
Stand-in skipper Shubman Gill lauded his team’s all-round performance. “Honestly, this was a perfect game for us — three centurions, excellent fielding, and clinical execution,” he said. “Even though we’ve lost six tosses in a row, as long as we’re winning games, it doesn’t matter. The team is young, but everyone stepped up when needed.”
Gill also reflected on his growth as a leader: “It’s been a great learning curve over the past couple of years. The way we’ve fought through tough situations has been really pleasing.”
West Indies Left Searching for Answers
For the visitors, it was another disappointing outing on Indian soil. Captain Roston Chase admitted that his team’s batting failures left them with no chance. “When you win the toss and get bowled out for 160-odd, it’s hard to come back. We have to bat better in these conditions — it’s all about putting up a big first-innings total,” he said.
Chase highlighted the lack of partnerships as the major concern. “I don’t think we even had a 50-run stand. In cricket, it’s all about partnerships, whether with bat or ball. That’s what we need to fix.”
Looking Ahead
The series now moves to Delhi, where the West Indies will need a dramatic turnaround to stay competitive. India, meanwhile, will look to build on their perfect start, with the balance between youth and experience giving them a strong platform heading into the rest of the season.
That’s all from Hyderabad — India’s home summer has begun, and they couldn’t have asked for a better start.
