Bundesliga 2025-26 : Dortmundu vs Werder Match Preview & Lineups
Borussia Dortmund were forced to settle for a dramatic draw against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out, despite holding the lead on two separate occasions. Goals had put BVB ahead at 1-0 and 2-1, but a stoppage-time equaliser from Carney Chukwuemeka in the 96th minute was required to rescue a point and avoid defeat.
That draw extended Dortmund’s unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to nine matches, comprising five victories and four stalemates. Their only league defeat of the campaign remains a narrow 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich back in October. Niko Kovač’s side have been particularly potent in attack, scoring at least twice in seven of their last nine outings across all competitions.
Defensive consistency, however, has been less convincing. Dortmund have conceded six goals in their previous four matches, although they have managed two clean sheets in their last four Bundesliga fixtures. Encouragingly for the Black and Yellow, Kovač is still unbeaten in league games at Signal Iduna Park, recording five wins and two draws on home soil.
Werder Bremen arrive in contrasting form. The Green-Whites were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Augsburg on December 20, a match in which they failed to register a single shot on target. That stalemate marked the second consecutive game in which Bremen failed to score, and they have found the net just three times across their last five matches.
Despite their struggles, Bremen have proven awkward opponents for Dortmund in recent meetings. The sides played out two draws in the 2024-25 Bundesliga campaign, with a 2-2 stalemate in Dortmund in January followed by a goalless draw in Bremen in August. However, Horst Steffen’s team are currently enduring a poor run of form, winless in five matches, losing three of them and conceding 10 goals in the process.
Bremen’s problems are compounded away from home, where they have failed to win any of their last six league trips, suffering four defeats during that period.
Team News
Dortmund have few injury concerns, with centre-back Aaron Anselmino the only confirmed absentee. The Argentine defender has started just four league matches this season, and there are no indications that Waldemar Anton, Emre Can or Nico Schlotterbeck will miss out.
In midfield, Marcel Sabitzer and Felix Nmecha could form a double pivot, although Jobe Bellingham remains a strong alternative. Serhou Guirassy is expected to lead the line, with Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt likely to provide support from wide areas.
Werder Bremen, meanwhile, will be without striker Victor Boniface, who is facing an extended spell on the sidelines following knee surgery. January signing Jovan Milošević could be in line for his debut. At the back, Amos Pieper and Niklas Stark are expected to anchor the defence, while Jens Stage and Senne Lynen should feature in central midfield.
With Dortmund’s strong home record and Bremen’s recent struggles, the hosts will be confident of extending their unbeaten run, though recent head-to-head results suggest the visitors are capable of making this a competitive encounter.
